Selecting a Remote Control Truck

Selecting a remote control truck isn't as easy as it used to be. There are now hundreds of different archetypes, thousands of more models, and even more attachments. Additionally, not all remote control truck models are powered by the same sources.

What should you look for in a remote control truck? It all depends on what you enjoy and how much you want to spend. If you want speed at any cost, many of the newest remote control truck models can drive over 25 miles per hour, but usually have a gas engine, which means they will be quite costly and will require a fill up every time you use them.

If you're looking for an all-terrain truck, there are now models on the market that are submersible, have complex shock systems, and have metal or fiberglass frames, making them extremely damage resistant.

Additionally, with tough truck models, you can also employ powerful tools, such as plows and lifts. Many higher-end remote control truck models now have enough power and tools to push sand or dirt or shovel it up and move it somewhere else.

One of the more popular construction truck models is the Caterpillar, which can used to plow sand around. This model is fairly inexpensive, generally ranging from about $25 to $30 for a new model. If you're looking for a higher performance model, you may want to check out CEN's Genesis Nitro or Tyco's Traxxis T-Max, which are both noted for being some of the most durable models with high off-road performance. Both, however, have gas engines and cost well over $350.

If you would prefer a compromise between models, you may want to check out the Nikko Hummer remote control truck model, which is reportedly high-performance, but costs less than $100.
